but first…
Thoughts for the day, on the notion we’ve might of heard before:
“You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
I used to give until I felt completely depleted. It's all I knew how to do.
As I look back on my past experiences, I learned this somewhere between childhood and motherhood. It became my default to give, give, give. Give my energy and attention away. Sound familiar. Or more so, does this resonate with you?
Giving, in this way, is not sustainable. It is not healthy and it doesn’t serve the other, truly.
The flight attendant before every commercial airline flight, tells all of the attentive passengers the beautifully simple adjustment to make regarding this…
“Place your mask on first, before helping others (including children)."
Giving from a space of alignment is far, far, far more effective and valuable than giving from a place of depletion.
Connect to your source of oxygen (life) and then notice how your giving to others is greatly enhanced not only for the other, you as well.
What I have found works for me is simply spending a few moments daily in nature. This allows me to recharge my batteries with grounding and connection. It can be a quick refresh if that's what you have time for!
Starting our days in meditation, journaling, movement, are also fantastic ways to get connected to that life source energy first, before showing up for others.
This is self-care. This is self-love.
Honor yourself first.
YOU are doing a great job!
Sending love through self-care!
